I like the film "Matrix", I believe that it may become ture one day. At present, the most efficient way to produce Virtual Environment is through vision because more than 90% information input to the brain is via vision. The combination of HMD and Head Tracking system can perform this task well. However, there still something may cumber the player's immersive feeling. One thing is the apparent conflict between different sensory. For example, when the player climb a mountain in the VE through a tradmill, the visual system tell the brain that he is walk upward, however, the body sensory tell the brain that he is still walk in a plane ground. This conflict may be solved when new VR interface available. Anther thing is that the perceived space in VE seems smaller than that in the real world. Many spatial perception studies shown that, in VE, subjects always underestimate the target distance, which can be very accurate in the real environment. However, it is still a puzzy that what cause it.
