{"id":218,"date":"2006-06-26T14:49:25","date_gmt":"2006-06-26T14:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cb.nowan.net\/wblog\/?p=218"},"modified":"2006-06-26T14:49:25","modified_gmt":"2006-06-26T14:49:25","slug":"qtvr-is-not-vr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cb.nowan.net\/blog\/2006\/06\/26\/qtvr-is-not-vr\/","title":{"rendered":"QTVR is not VR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry for the lack of update, we&#8217;re working hard to get the VRPack 2.0 out \ud83d\ude09 More on that later. <\/p>\n<p>In the meantime I just want to express my anger at QuicktimeVR and everything related (hello VRMag, VRWay .. !) that misuse the term VR.<br \/>\nProfessionals agree that VR must *at least* include three components, that is : <br \/>\n&#8211; immersion, <br \/>\n&#8211; interaction, <br \/>\n&#8211; realtime 3d <\/p>\n<p>Although we may imagine that the third point could be replaced by some other way of fooling our brain into believing it lives in another environment, <br \/>\nthe two other are indispensable for everything that wants to call itself VR. <\/p>\n<p>&#8211; QtVR is most of the time *not* interactive, and certainly not for manipulating the displayed environment, <br \/>\n&#8211; QtVR is *not* immersive; this implies some sort of head tracking and\/or stereoscopic image to give the impression of depth, <br \/>\n&#8211; and finally QtVR is certainly not able to modify the displayed environment in realtime. <\/p>\n<p>So if QTVR is *not* VR, what is it ?<\/p>\n<p>Well for what I know of it, it&#8217;s simply a panoramic 360\u00c2\u00b0 image viewer.
