All UI&#8217;s before this date were plain text prompts. This program was his PhD thesis in 1963 at MIT.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cs.berkeley.edu\/~jasonh\/cs39i-seminar\/project1\/IvanSutherland\/sketchpad.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cs.berkeley.edu\/~jasonh\/cs39i-seminar\/project1\/IvanSutherland\/hdmnt2lx.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sun.com\/960710\/feature3\/images\/wire.GIF\" alt=\"\" \/> <\/p>\n<p>In 1966 Sutherland experimented with virtual reality (see Head Mounted Display above)<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong> http:\/\/www.sun.com\/960710\/feature3\/alice.html <\/strong>  <br \/>\nIvan&#8217;s last paper about graphics, &#8220;A Characterization of Ten Hidden-Surface Algorithms&#8221; offers a taxonomy of the then-known solutions to this problem.<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the 1970s, the University of Utah was one of the few places in the world with a computer graphics focus. Led by Professor Evans and Professor Sutherland, the Computer Science Department at the University of Utah became the premier center for the development of computer graphics. <br \/>\nIn 1968 they founded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.es.com\/\">Evans &amp; Sutherland<\/a> <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sun.com\/960710\/feature3\/images\/vw1-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sun.com\/960710\/feature3\/images\/vw2-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/> <br \/>\nAt left, students at University of Utah take the measurements of the surface of Ivan&#8217;s Volkswagen.
