ProFORMA – 3D object scanning with a webcam

    Published at 22:21   Category 3d

An interesting research project by the University of Cambridge called ProFORMA shows how to easily scan an object with only a webcam (that only sees in 2D). It’s not perfect yet but it sure is promising, and could be a 3d scanners killer.

You can still create your own 3D scanner with a webcam and a laser.

    2. Looks fantastic, results are very promising.
Even if it will not guarantee 100% accurate 3D model re-creation, this technology will be really great for markerless AR.

    4. hmm, great pointer thanks. I wonder how it would hold up maybe out of doors for mapping terrain, etc. Definitely going to check it out.
